Scott’s Potential Sequel to 'The Hangover'

The funniest movie I saw last year was “The Hangover.” No qualms about it. It was inventive and inappropriate and hilarious. In the recesses of my mind, this is what I am envisioning when I attend Phil’s bachelor party this summer. Hey, wasn’t a guy in the movie named Phil, too. Creepy.

Our festivities will not include Las Vegas, a tiger, a baby or the Asian Mafia. At least, I hope not. Ours will be more sedate and earthy – an overnight trip on the New River.

I love to plan a party so the logistics of getting strippers, a keg and a nice spread of tapas to the river is taxing my planning skills. Maybe a helicopter. I am over-thinking it. Or a gondola down the river.

I have never done one of ACE’s overnight trips and I have mixed emotions. Exposure to nature for more than 24 hours may be more than my delicate constitution can take. Claritin and Mucinex, check. I am a very hygienic two-shower-a-day man so the thought of no shower is startling.

I am adaptable. I’m a tree. I can bend.

I am taking a new approach to this adventure and shall embrace my inner outdoor enthusiast. I will grow a beard and wear Chacos. I want a guide tan with the outline of a PFD (personal flotation device) and sandal straps.

My hesitance is lessened by the fact that our overnight trips are known for amazing food. I have been hearing about our campfire nachos for three years and am ready to let them dance on my taste buds. And I am a sucker for a campfire. I am a closet pyromaniac so the fire hypnotizes me.

The pros outweigh the cons for me. Honestly, Phil Dudley – the groom – is a great person as is his fiancé, Kate. The least I could do is get a little dirty for them.

Here is my question. What are the main requirements for my overnight trip? What can I not live without? I will tell you this, though, if I wake up and Mike Tyson is at my campsite or I am missing a tooth, I am done.

Just went to ACE for a bachelor party two weeks ago. Everything was great. We stayed at the Truman House and everyone was more than excited to tell us about Southern X. They even had a shuttle that picked us up and brought us back to the lodge. The entire weekend was awesome.
