If you haven’t heard, the 2nd Annual Fourth of July Blob Big Air Contest is just around the corner. It will take place on the ACE Lake using the big inflated blob toy.

As one of the judges last year, I was lucky enough to get front row seats. It was quite the spectacle. Even if you aren’t much for being launched, or perhaps not weighty enough to be a launcher, watching the event live is definitely worth your time.

You may even have the opportunity to help us select a winner. Last year, the final teams were really close. The launch quality was excellent with off-the-chart height. We judges had a hard time deciding which team to select as grand champion, so we decided to let the crowd choose. And I have to say, I think they really got into it.

If you’re celebrating July 4th with ACE and you are considering competing, here are a few tips to launch you into the finals ring:

  • It works best to pair a smaller person with a bigger person. The laws of gravity will be more in your favor (minimum age: 8 years old).
  • Get creative – We will be judging for style, not just height.
  • Warm up – There is plenty of time on Sunday to perfect your moves before the competition begins.
  • Lastly, be sure your swim suit/trunks are securely fastened. You won’t be disqualified, but it could be a little embarrassing.

And last but not least, Scott's ode to the Blob:

The lake is a free amenity for our guests. So if you are doing a guided activity or lodging with us, you are welcome to enjoy the lake.
