Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

I met Josh Sapio, the Climbing and Canopy Manager, on Monday and we went to check out the progress of our Zip Line Canopy Tour. It may seem like this is taking a while, but let me reassure you, it will be worth the wait.
Josh really wanted me to see some of the highlights, so we hiked down to several of the lines. As previously reported, the A-frame structures at each launch and dismount are complete. The team from Beanstalk Journeys is now making progress on all of the decks attached to each A-frame. Josh was quick to point out that these decks are designed by engineers and adhere to ACE Adventure Resort’s safety standards.
Specifically, the dismount on Line No. 2 is spectacular. The deck is engineered on the cliff’s edge for spectacular views of the New River Gorge below. It felt like we were floating in mid-air. While we were there, a train passed by on the tracks below. Now that’s a photo-op.
Josh also pointed out some other key details. The new launches and dismounts are designed so the zippers will land on the dismount ramp. He also stressed that our tour will still use the gravity braking system. This type of braking system really allows the guest to enjoy the ride and scenery without the worry of having to use a hand brake.
Josh couldn’t wait to show me the progress on Line No. 6. This is probably the most dramatic and exciting improvement to our existing tour. Currently, Line No. 6 is 350 feet long. As part of the renovation, it will stretch 550 feet across a 100 foot chasm. For all of you who have already done our tour, you will still hit that great speed Line No. 6 is known for. That extra 200 feet is nothing to sneeze at.
I was thrilled to see the progress made to ACE’s first sky bridge. The base of the 175 foot bridge is almost complete. Hand railings and a safety line still have to be added. The sky bridge is at Line No. 4 and gives guests a chance to take a break. They can choose to walk across instead of zipping with all of the other adrenaline junkies.
Remember, this construction will not affect any tours that you may have already booked. It is business as usual until the lines are complete and inspected. As the roving reporter, I will keep you in the loop.

I just spoke to Josh, the Canopy Tour manager, and he gave me a current update. Phase 2 includes the construction of 3 new lines - ranging from 400 to 650 feet. Upon closer inspection, the plan changed to adapt to the landscape and cliff lines and made the 1200 foot line unrealistic.
