Recently I guided a Big Water Canyon Overnight on the New River and there were two separate bachelor parties enjoying the trip. It got me thinking; where are the girls vacationing this summer?

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the guys’ antics, but I think I could relate to a girl gang a little better. And if “Sex and the City” has taught us anything, we need to celebrate our girlfriends more than ever!

Tune into the Travel Channel and rediscover why ACE was declared one of the top 8 “Extreme Resorts” in the world. The segment will be airing next Wednesday, June 23, at 6 p.m.

Last August, the Travel Channel’s “Extreme Resorts” highlighted all of the activities that make ACE special including canopy tours, ATV riding, horseback riding, paintball and, of course, whitewater rafting.

Keith, the video man, recently released this video of us tearing it up on ATVs at ACE. It is a tough job working for North America's largest adventure resort at times. I guess someone has to do it, though.

Let's see, in the past month and a half Keith and I had to go out and shoot video of winter ATV tours twice, all that deep virgin snow and beautiful panoramic views were hard to take. We then had to shoot video of a winter Zip Line Canopy Tour. I mean, seriously, do you want to spend an entire day flying through the air at 35 mph? Then we had to shoot video and take pictures of the new Bridge Walk catwalk tour. All that fresh air suspended 850 feet overhead is enough to make you sick.

My friends think it is ironic that I work at ACE. So does my family. And my mail lady. And my insurance agent. Basically, I am not historically known for my athletic prowess.

In fifth grade, I played basketball and I use the word "play" liberally. My uncle was the coach so I made the team. But I hated every minute of it. I hated the practice. I hated running laps. I hated dribbling. I did LOVE my uniform. It was hot. I was part of a team - a silent part, and a non-active part, but a part none-the-less.

Dear Mother Nature,

It was so nice to see you today after a long absence. You never write.  You never call. For a while our relationship had become an endless cycle of snow and loneliness.

I know our relationship has had its ups and downs and you certainly have to spread yourself pretty thin with all of your responsibilities, but seriously. For a while there, I thought you were upset with me and punishing me with three months of snow. However, you have taken it a bit far.

During the summer, days off come around as often as a blue moon. A guide who isn't scheduled on the river that day will talk to a manager and try to pick up an extra trip, a canopy tour or some hours helping repair rafts in the boat building. There's always something to keep you busy at ACE.

Normally, I sleep later than the ACE breakfast buffet's open hours, so I head into downtown Fayetteville to grab some brunch at Cathedral Café. Built in an old church, it still retains its stained glass windows and ambiance. Cathedral makes an amazing cup of coffee, served perfectly with Sweet Potato Pancakes. Mmmm, pancakes. Anyway, a good day starts with a great breakfast, right?

How was I to know that one afternoon could change my life? You never know when love will find you. I never expected "The Notebook." Frankly, I expected "Grumpy Old Men." When we met, it was like in a movie. I was walking toward her and everything became slow motion. I tried to play it cool but she had me at hello. I felt a goofy grin come over my face and I knew it was love. People always say that when you know, you know. I knew.

We spent the afternoon together with some other co-workers. They could tell I had it bad for her. She let me call her B. B. She seemed to understand my every move. And she was such a good listener. I talked and talked and she was a captive audience. Then Trish was there to get our picture. Normally, it would have been corny to get a picture on your first date but this seemed OK. It was love.
