ACE has been taking people down the Keninskeha River for more than three decades now.  Well over 500,000 people have rafted with us in that time!  Wow, that's something.

The Shawnee considered the Kanawha and New River as one great big river.  They called it the Keninskeha, which supposedly translates to the "River of Evil Spirits," or as some claim "The River of Death"!

So this year, I have made a list of ACE-related New Year's Resolutions. I readily admit that I have not taken advantage of all that we offer here, but this is my year: Scott's top 10 for 2010.

Now, what you have to understand - and I have referred to it in many blogs - is that I am moderately to severely athletically challenged. More aptly put, I am a clutz. Sometimes, situations like that make me very nervous. And those nerves can breed what I call "the donkey laugh." A loud, honking hee haw of a laugh.

It surfaced once at a Moroccan restaurant that had a belly dancer. And she was very buxom. Well, she took a shine to me and gyrated and thrusted to the point that it was full tilt donkey city. I still can't eat couscous.

Trish wrote a great Bridge Walk blog post about the jitters she got taking pictures out beneath the New River Gorge Bridge.

But it doesn't seem to show in her photos. Bridge Walk will be offering tours — the first of its kind here in West Virginia and the U.S. — this spring. Here are a few more images she took on that day:

Beginning this summer, guests of ACE and visitors to Southern West Virginia will have an opportunity for a vacation adventure that you can't find anywhere else on this continent: A tour under the New River Gorge Bridge, also known as BridgeWalk.

But will they be ready for the thrill of it?

Recently, I was invited to take photos for the new BridgeWalk. At first I thought it would be no big deal. Boy, was I wrong.

Part one of my blog post on Bridge Walk last week left me stranded hundreds of feet in the air under the New River Gorge Bridge, on a tiny catwalk, rethinking my decision on making this journey.  I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep going or not.

The initial shock of the shaking and rattling catwalk caused by tractor trailers passing overhead slowly subsided.  I learned to listen for the approaching semi trucks and anticipate their effect.  It wasn't so bad when you get use to it.  I actually relaxed and started to enjoy the panoramic views again.

It's September and Gauley Season is here.  With all of the local rains we had over the summer, Summersville Lake was full and ready for the big fall release schedule!

If you came out over the summer, the Lower New River had great water levels all summer, the best summer levels in years!  Now its time to step it up to next level.  The Gauley is waiting for you.

As you plan for when you can come take part in the Gauley celebration, consider what some feel to be the most exciting weekend in the world.  The third weekend in October is the date of the 2009 Bridge Day Festival (the 17th).

For the past several years, some classmates of mine from Virginia High School in Bristol, VA have been coming to ACE for what we call our mini reunions. We were all members of the class of 1970 - yes, we're old!

ACE is a great place for all your outdoor activities, including Whitewater, but it's also a great place for friends to get together. With ACE's Deluxe Chalets, Cozy Cabins and other lodging options, it's easy to organize a party or reunion. It's a great location for people coming from different states, and allows everyone to have privacy in their own cabin or share one of our larger units.

The reunions with my classmates have really allowed us to reconnect after many years,...
