Great people having a great time
in the GREAT outdoors!

Well, I’m back to work after a great weekend at Snowshoe for their Blues, Brews & BBQ’s event.  ACE sponsored a ducky race on Shaver Lake and I got to attend (a ducky’s just an inflatable kayak, y’all.)

Despite some challenges from Mother Nature, Cat Mitchell and I had a great time.  To quote raft guide extraordinaire Tim Gunn, we “made it work.”  I had never been to Snowshoe before – shame on me – and it is like a different world.

The greatest enjoyment of owning a mud obstacle course is witnessing the different reactions it evokes from guests the first time they see it. They can range from “What’s that?” to “No, really.” to “That looks so cool.” to “No way are you getting me in that mud.” Whatever the response, it is usually filled with emotion and a smile. That’s because you can’t find a course like this just anywhere. Sure you could join the Army, but they don’t get to go rafting until much later in their training.

The Wilderness Challenge is almost here! This year's race will be totally different than in the past.

I'm starting to get very excited, and a little nervous, about this upcoming event.  Months of preparation (started back in April), a lot of hard work, and we are now only days away from the start.

This will be the first time ACE has hosted this prestigious event, and it's going to be a totally different experience for the racers — done in a way that only ACE can do it.

If you want to win this year's first-ever Whitewater Rumble guest rafting race, it's going to take some strong paddlers.

In my last post, I described how ACE is organizing a whitewater rafting race for guests on the Lower Gauley this October, pitting you speed demons versus each other AND some of the world's best whitewater. (You can also get more information here on the ACE website.)

So you might ask, what qualifies a good crew of paddlers?
