Bring On The Summer Season!

ACE Adventure Resort is open year round, and we average 40 year-round employees who keep the place going.

Even in the winter we have cabins to clean, buildings and vehicles to repair and new projects to undertake, like our newly expanded beach and remodeled women’s shower house.

But that’s a far cry from the 350-some employees we have “in season.”

Working in the whitewater industry we get a few perks, such as being able to offer our families the opportunities to raft with us when they come to visit their kids who have defected from the North.

I’m one of those kids, and my mom comes at least once a year to raft with us.

My mom is fit, attractive, has a killer wardrobe, and swears that broccoli can cure any and all ailments. She’s also always up for trying new things, even if it does make her a little nervous.

My mom’s first rafting trip was on the Lower New River. She was all for it, and very excited. I would never use the word clumsy if I were to describe my mom, but that is exactly what I will use when describing my mother while whitewater rafting.

What is the longest amount of time you could spend with all of your relatives? My answer is about 15 minutes, and that is with a double dose of my medication.

I love them, but we are a hot mess. Who am I kidding? I am not exactly the easiest to get along with. I am admittedly high-maintenance, with what some may call an attitude.

ACE is the place for the Class of 1970

For the past several years, some classmates of mine from Virginia High School in Bristol, VA have been coming to ACE for what we call our mini reunions. We were all members of the class of 1970 - yes, we're old!

ACE is a great place for all your outdoor activities, including Whitewater, but it's also a great place for friends to get together. With ACE's Deluxe Chalets, Cozy Cabins and other lodging options, it's easy to organize a party or reunion. It's a great location for people coming from different states, and allows everyone to have privacy in their own cabin or share one of our larger units.

The reunions with my classmates have really allowed us to reconnect after many years,...
