Keith, the video man, recently released this video of us tearing it up on ATVs at ACE. It is a tough job working for North America's largest adventure resort at times. I guess someone has to do it, though.

Let's see, in the past month and a half Keith and I had to go out and shoot video of winter ATV tours twice, all that deep virgin snow and beautiful panoramic views were hard to take. We then had to shoot video of a winter Zip Line Canopy Tour. I mean, seriously, do you want to spend an entire day flying through the air at 35 mph? Then we had to shoot video and take pictures of the new Bridge Walk catwalk tour. All that fresh air suspended 850 feet overhead is enough to make you sick.

Every season, nearly 40,000 people come to ACE just to go rafting. Some are families, some are nonprofit groups, some come for fun, some come to work. Work? Yes, work! Many companies come to work on their communication skills, leadership skills, trust in the group and other such dynamics.

Team Building retreats and activities have progressed from the basic "Trust Fall" and silly conference room games to activities called "Mission: Possible" and "Weeble Wobble." ACE offers these activities and more! Here are five different ways to work on your group's team building, communication and trust skills.

There's one thing I want to get straight, and I'm just going to say it - I was in a sorority in college. Yes, I proudly wore Greek letters emblazoned across my T-shirts, hooded sweatshirts and sweatpants at Indiana University.  It begs the question everyone wonders about, "What are you doing in the middle of West Virginia?" It all started years ago, back in Indiana.

I grew up in Indianapolis, so I'm a proud Hoosier through and through. I went to Indiana University in southern Indiana, about 45 minutes south of where I grew up. While there, I thoroughly enjoyed the college life: living in a sorority house, cheering on my favorite sport (Indiana basketball) and, of course, studying!

Our friend Mark Piggott from the public affairs office at the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, Va., not only helped organize one heck of an adventure race for a couple hundred soldiers, he followed it up by writing a doozy of a guest blog post for us. Here's Mark's report:

Cold, rainy and muddy conditions would not deter the 54 teams competing in the Mid-Atlantic Region, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department's 9th annual all-military Wilderness Challenge, Oct. 8-10.

More than 250 military personnel representing commands from all across the armed forces competed in five grueling extreme outdoor events in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains on the New and the Gauley Rivers in West Virginia.

The "Dale Milton Racing" team from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Camp Lejune, N.C., was 1st place winner for the Marine Corps and the 2009 Wilderness Challenge champions. According to Maj. Keith Parrella, the team captain, the challenge plays on the real-life teamwork that Marines and other military service members rely on.

Hello fellow bloggers and visiting guests! This is a little introduction of me and how I ended up at a dream job at ACE Adventure Resort.

I graduated from WVU with a marketing degree in May 2008.

I sold cars, insurance, and memberships for various companies through April 2009.  I must say that at this point in my life I was feeling a bit battle-torn by the job market as a college graduate.

But to my great surprise, I received a call from Jack Lund at ACE in early May 2009, and my dreams came true — and beyond!

From The Mud Pit

When we first opened the Mud Obstacle Course , I gathered up ACE's marketing staff and a few other willing players for a video shoot for Charleston's WCHS Traveling WV Segment. I really didn't know what to expect.

I came prepared to get dirty, but this was far beyond what I imagined. I opted to use one of the old wetsuits ACE provides, and I'm glad I did. That water was COLD! And the mud, well, let me put it this way: if you aren't a big fan of the Cleveland Browns already, you will be after the final "Swamp Crossing." Your entire wardrobe including your shoes will be stained shades of orange and brown. Luckily, I was wearing a red wetsuit.
