Great people having a great time
in the GREAT outdoors!

My Google Calendar is overloaded with things. Deadlines. Appointments.  The last thing I want to worry about is a made-up, fake holiday like Valentine's Day.

You will not see me going out and buying a Ground Hog's Day card.  To me, Ground Hog's Day is a movie, not an occasion. And Arbor Day.  Is it ironic to buy an Arbor Day card made of paper from a tree?  It totally challenges my newly discovered green attitude. We are killing trees to make cards made of trees for a fake holiday about trees. Confusing.

But I digress.  This is about February 14th, and how ACE has just what you need for this so-called holiday.

After spending almost a decade at ACE Adventure Resort as a
guide, I have recently transitioned to become the Director of Group
Sales here at ACE.  This new position has afforded me the opportunity
to reflect on the many experiences I've had here in beautiful
southeastern West Virginia over the past 9 years.

When I moved here many moons ago, I was single and in college at
Northern Arizona University.  I've always loved being around water
and being active, so I thought that maybe working as a guide would be
a good fit for me.  I never expected to be here nine years later
married with two kids and a mortgage.

You have not heard from me for a while.    To say the least, I have been very busy this year.    The past 6 months have been a blur, ensuring over 50,000 guests have a great time on their vacation.

Yes, that number is correct.    That is over 35,000 rafters with the rest being on canopy tours, ATV trips, paintball, kayaking, mountain biking, horseback riding, rock climbing, mud obstacle mayhem and more.  Wow!  Writing those activities down really makes you realize that we do everything you can possibly do in the outdoors.

So now that I am back, the first thing I want to do is give a big shout out to my team: the guys and gals who worked their tails off this season.  I can't possibly begin to express my appreciation for them. There aren't enough pats on the back.

So with that said, here are the people who planned, priced, answered, scheduled and made 50,000 adventures happen!

Cheap is such a harsh word.  There is a whole litany of cliches.

"Tighten your bootstraps." But they better be designer boots.

I am a stickler for customer service.   The other day, I was considering changing cell phone service.  I went to a major carrier's store and stood for 20 minutes waiting for service.  For me, 20 minutes is a long time but I was seriously considering the switch.  I left there without speaking to a representative or getting any information.

I then went to my cell phone store.  "Hey, Scott" they said.  "Be right with you."

Needless to say, I am not switching.

Customer service-wise, a great feature we have on our website is called Live Chat.

I've been reading the ACE blog all summer, and I'm finally making my dive into the world of blogging. I'm Brianna Jackson, Adventure Consultant extraordinaire and outdoor junkie.

I would say it's in my blood, but my mom didn't become a raft guide until I was older. If it is in our blood, it's a recessed gene that must be discovered.

My mother, Tracy Jackson, found her niche here at ACE as a river guide. In contrast, I am a sampler of everything, master of nothing. I love rafting, hiking, mountain biking, the zip lines, swimming, caving — the list never ends.

I have spent several summers employed as an Adventure Consultant. If guests ask if I am from the area, I emphatically reply that, yes, I am local. This is my home; I love West Virginia.

Midsummer at ACE and all is well.  It is better than that, actually.  It is great.

We are busy with families and Scout troops and church groups.  Working in the office, I talk to A LOT of people.  And my phone calls are usually in depth — I share and guests share back.

I was going for my usual 2:00 lunch break walk the other day and struck up a conversation with a guest.  She was so impressed with everything.  It was so nice to hear that in person.

As the conversation went on, I realized I had booked her trip.  She mentioned that she was grilling steaks that night.    I stopped her immediately.
