Team Building Challenge Course

Challenge: Yourself, your friends, your management team, your special group. That is what ACE's Team Building Challenge Course is all about. Our three levels of initiative-based elements will assist your group in meeting the challenges that can occur throughout life's daily journey. The problem-solving tasks that your group will embark on will metaphorically translate to the day-to-day problems that can occur in any group setting. Roadblocks to group dynamics, such as interpersonal communication and trust, will be confronted and overcome, and coping strategies for these hindrances will be explored. Each course is designed to be a microcosmic model of real life.

In order to meet the varying needs of participants, we have established three types of challenge courses in which your group can participate. We have a Low Initiative Course, Stand-Alone High Elements and an Alpine Tower. Each one of these offers varying elements:

Each challenge course that is custom-designed by the ACE Adventure Center staff is centered on a set of objectives. These objectives apply to both groups and the individuals within the group. Some of the objectives front-loaded into each course are:

Personal Development and
Understanding of Self
* Expanding individual self-awareness
* Identification of personal limits
* Clarification of needs and goals
* Recognition of role in society

Interpersonal Effectiveness
* Responsiveness to the needs of others
* Encourage open and effective lines of communication
* Construction of cooperative relationships
* Decision-making and problem-solving

Personal Philosophy
* Recognition of an individual's value and belief system

The methodology of how these initiatives create experiential education opportunities varies. One way these objectives are met is by creating difficult, but achievable, experiences. Placing students in situations that have both physical and emotional experiences will compel them to be introspective in relation to their reactions and responses, in an arena that requires action and decision. Some of the areas of emphasis in the presentation of initiatives are:

Problem-Solving
o Analytical breakdown of a situation and arrival at a solution to the problem at hand
o Service to others; Exploration of the parts that constitute the whole; Finding solutions mutually beneficial
o Creating initiative-based metaphors for the "real world"
