Alyson your comment is sooooo true! Last year was my first time rafting and it was a blast! My group did the reverse Gauley. The group I was with we have been friends for about 25 years now and I am only 31. We were in boy scouts and every year since we have graduated high school except for the 4 years I was in the Navy we have done something in the outdoors for a vacation every year. The outdoors brings us all closer together while we are doing what ever task we have picked. Two years ago it was hiking 26 miles in the Cumberland Gap, last year we took on the Gauley this year we are taking on the Gauley. One friend I used to talk with allot but don't anymore put a comment on my facebook the other day that made me laugh. He was amazed at me counting down with you guys the Gauley season start and one of the friends that was with me last year was on the trip and put a comment on there like it's a Gauley thing you wouldn't understand he then came back and said Daniel you have turned into a real outdoorsman. I laughed and replied "if you only knew!" - Daniel

Make new friends and new connections. Every trip on the river is a unique experience all its own and in part due to the combinations of personalities of the people in the boat. I had a scout trip where at the beginning there was one boy who was kind of different and the others weren't interacting very much with him. By the end of the trip, he was falling a little behind the other boys getting back to the raft after a swimmers rapid and 2 boys jumped back in to
swim back to him so he wouldn't be alone while he caught up to the boat. Comraderie, friendship, team building, and from your story, even romance. So many good things wrapped up in the package of a rafting trip! Good story-thanks for sharing. - Big Wave Dave

Not to mention... what a great "how we met" story for dinner parties! ;)

I really love hearing experiences like this. It's amazing to me how small the world is when we take the time to get to know other people around us, even if it's just on a rafting trip. - Brianna
