Paul – best place for golden-winged is on the Glade Creek Road near Danese – hard to find, but once on the road just look for the successional habitat they like and open your ears. As for Swainson’s you can find them in most places where the habitat is right – rhodo and low tangles with water nearby. Two easiest places are the NPS parking lot for the Fern Creek trail. Rhodo at back edge of lot is almost always harboring birds. Another great place is Babcock State Park. Head down toward the gift shop and by the turn for the cabins you can usually find them. We would love to have you attend the Festival some time – check out the video on the web site on the singing Swainson’s – we had everybody on that bird for a long time - Dave

I plan to visit WV after the New River Festival and do some birding. Specifically can anyone tell me where the best place to find Swainson's and Golden-winged worblers?

Thanks - Paul
