Comedy Night

For a night of side-splitting laughter, Dave Bradford and friends are sure to be a treat for all. Lined up are three top-notch comedians that will keep the puns and the night rolling. Dave Bradford is a New York based comedian with a rather interesting background. Dave spent some time as a professional whitewater rafter and climbing guide, making him and his material perfect for ACE Adventure Resort and their guests. After, he began his career as an actor, writer and comedian. Tom Scheve and Art Sturtevant are set to accompany Dave in the laugh department. Both are natives of Asheville, North Carolina and both are hilarious hits that will create a truly memorable night. 

Lilly Mountaineers

Bluegrass has never sounded so good as when played by the beloved Lilly Mountaineers. Core members of the band, brothers Daniel and Mark Lilly carry on the bluegrass/country tradition started by their father, the legendary Everett Lilly. This is a passion for the Mountaineers and it shows with each strum and every lyric. The band has toured with many national acts around the country and even appeared at the Grand Old Opry. In 2008, The Lilly Mountaineers were the recipients of the IBMA Recorded Event of the Year Award for their latest album, “Everett Lilly and Everybody & Their Brother”. These fellas are no stranger to success in their craft, however for them it is more of a love for the music they play. Their audience is sure to get a wonderful blend of bluegrass and country that will leave them wanting more.

Gather at the ACE Adventure Play Park on Saurday, July 6th, 2013 for the 4th Annual Big Air Blob Competition. Fireworks won't be the only thing rocketing skyward on Independence Day. Teams of two will compete for the most outrageous blob of the day. Judges will score up to 10 points per blob based on form, height or just sheer craziness. Prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners!

Rules

• 2-person teams – launcher and launchee
• Minimum age: 8
• Kids age 8 to 11 must weigh at least 50 lbs
• No more than a 150 lb. weight difference between launcher and launchee
• Must have already completed lake waiver and have lake wristband
• 1st round – all teams blob
• 2nd round – top 10 teams blob a second time
• 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners awarded

• Registration and competition starts at 5 PM on Saturday, July 6th
• Come to the event tent located near the lake dock

Blister N is a band that is sure to turn up the rock and roll. Their members are from nearby Fayetteville, West Virginia, which may be an indignation of where there country roots stem from. A self-proclaimed genre of “punkytonk”, describes the new, edgier rock vibe that these individuals give to old school honky-tonk. Blister N loves to give a great, rocking show each and every time. Members of the audience will surely recognize some of their material from older country songs but hear it set to a new blend that only Blister N can provide. For someone looking to have an enjoyable night out this band will not disappoint.

P-Love and the Appalachian Thunder Funk

Plove and the Appalachian Thunder Funk is band that is sure to leave the audience’s toes a tappin’.  Band members include Peyton Love, Tk Shields and John Cornwell. These guys know how to lay down the boogie and love doing so. They are an original band from the depths of the Gauley River making them all too good of a fit for ACE Adventure Resort. The sound of Plove and the Appalachian Thunderfunk is that of an effortless blend of rock and blues, with of course, some thunderfunk. They bring a unique sound to the stage that the audience is sure to enjoy.

For the acoustic music lovers, Ken Kruger strums a melodic tune that ensures to leave the ears and soul happy. As an ACE Adventure Resort employee of many years, Ken holds a special place in our hearts. His sound is mixed with that of acoustic guitar with advanced finger styles, funky chords and esoteric lyrics. It is easy listening and impressive technique blended at its best. For the guest who enjoys a relaxing evening with harmonious music to accompany it, Ken Kruger is the musician to see.

Blue Yonder Band is a new band from Charleston, West Virginia that features three seasoned musician each with distinctive and notable skills. The band includes singer/songwriter John Lilly, national guitar champion Robert Shafer and bassist Will Carter. Their sound is one of early country music blended with a swing of honky-tonk, a dash of bluegrass and a pinch of rockabilly all mixed together. This is an electric band that is sure to entertain with their vast experience and expertise. The Blue Yonder Band entertains audiences of all ages with their songs of old and new and their overall seasoned musicianship. 

Dave Glen

Dave Glen is a deejay that has over 20 years of broadcast radio under his belt. This man is no stranger to spinning a beat that everyone is sure to love. He has hosted hundreds of mobile deejay shows under the name “Dave Glen That Radio Guy”. He regularly performs at picnics, parties, receptions and reunions giving him an edge to knowing what people like to hear and dance to. He also performs at many school events for kids of all ages. This means that the sounds of Dave Glen appeal to all. The techniques and talents of this man will get everyone up dancing for a night of pure musical enjoyment.

First Day of Gauley Season

September 6th, 2013

For die-hard white water enthusiasts, the level of excitement and anticipation for the first day of Gauley season just might rival that of a 6 year old on Christmas morning. Starting the Friday after Labor Day, the Army Corps of Engineers provides a series of twenty-two controlled releases from the Summersville Dam. These releases create incredible levels of water that draws people from around the world. Who wouldn’t want to take a ride on a wet, wild, and wonderful river that is recognized by paddlers as one of the top ranked rivers in the world? The Gauley winds through three sections: the Upper, Middle and Lower, featuring different difficulty levels and amazing scenery. Each season, more than 60,000 paddlers take on world-famous rapids such as "Insignificant," "Pillow Rock" and "Sweet's Falls."
