Full-Time or Part-Time.
Full-time guides must be available to work on any day throughout the summer season...Memorial Day until Labor Day. Full-time guides must also make themselves available for off-river work if requested. Additionally, to be considered "Full-Time," you must be available to work weekends through mid-October... the end of the fall Gauley River season. For college students, this means that it's OK to return to school before Gauley Season ends but you must be close enough and willing to be here on weekends through mid-October if needed. Scheduling preference is given to full-time guides.
Part-time guides can accept or reject work at any time it is offered. If you can't commit the entire summer and/or you can't be available on weekends through the end of the fall Gauley Season, you'll be considered Part-Time. There is usually plenty of work for any part-timers on weekends. Part-timers are occasionally offered work during the week, but our first preference is to give this work to our full-time staff.
Position Seeking: Full-Time Weekends
To be considered full time, you must be available for all weekends through mid-October.

Which Training Session is best?
We have two training sessions. The first session is held on weekends only and begins March 16, 2002. This session runs for eight consecutive weekends except for Easter weekend (March 31- April 1, 2002). This is followed by a second session that begins on Saturday May 18, 2002. Unlike the first session, here we have classes every day except Mondays. This session runs through June 7th.
If you are available for the weekend session (beginning March 16th), you should try to get into this class. This will get you trained and checked out to guide as early as possible and thus maximize your earning potential. If you're not quite ready to check out when the first session ends, you can join the second session and get the additional time you need to get ready. If you are unavailable on weekends in March and April, you'll need to be in the second session.
