Tent Camping
on your own.
If you have your own camping gear, you can enjoy some of the best camping in West Virginia right here at the ACE Adventure Center. The wide-open Mountaintop campground features spacious sites and spectacular sunsets. This is the place for larger groups of tent campers or for those who prefer a more open setting. There is also limited tent camping available in the Shady Lane and Turkey Spur campgrounds. These sites are heavily wooded, secluded and more private than those on Mountaintop. These individual sites are favorites of families with children. Mom and Dad can enjoy the outdoor luxury of a Cabin Tent while the kids pitch their tents nearby. Both Turkey Spur and Shady Lane have an 11:30 PM curfew. If you're going to be partying late, go to Mountaintop. When you make your reservations, let your Adventure Consultant know which setting you'd prefer. All sites are "first come, first served."
What to Bring
Bring a sleeping bag or blanket
plus a foam mattress pad or air mattress. Bring your personal toiletries and some towels. Evenings are often cool up here in the mountains, so make sure you have a long-sleeved shirt, long pants and a light sweater or jacket. Don't forget your flashlight and some insect repellant.
Camping Suggestions
Bring ALL your gear.
Since you're probably driving to the ACE Adventure Center, your car can serve as a mobile closet for your camping gear. It's far better to have it and not need it than to need it and discover you left it at home.
Make it a Package
ACE's dining hall serves breakfast, lunch and dinner each day from Memorial Day through the end of the season. There's lots to do here
hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, riding, to name a few
and you'll save time if you let us do the cooking. Lodging packages include breakfast and dinner and also save you money on both camping and meals.
Bring lots of Dry Clothes
With all the swimming, rafting and playing you're going to be doing
plus the chance of the occasional rain shower
it's great to have something dry to put on for the evening.
We can Help
ACE's Outfitters Store and our Welcome Center at the front gate have lots of camping items in case you forget something. We also sell beverages and snacks at both locations.
When you make your reservations, let your Adventure Consultant know what type of camping you'd like. Curfew or non-curfew
open or wooded
cabin or tent. We'll direct you to the camping area that's right for you and your family or friends. The earlier you make your reservations, the more options you have.
You can Help
Our Maintenance and Janitorial staffs do a marvelous job of keeping all our campgrounds in great shape and ready for your visit
but we need your help. Please put all your trash in the appropriate containers and keep your campsite clean
so it won't attract unwanted woodland critters. Bathrooms and shower houses are plentiful and convenient so please use them instead of the woods behind your tent. Above all, please be respectful of your neighbors. Keep the noise down and try to keep your language decent as we do have lots of kids in the campground. Please keep your campfire small
forest fires are ugly things. Please mention any problems to the next ACE employee you run into. We'll try to make things right for you. And, by the way, have a great time!
