Oak Hill, West Virginia. Memorial Day Weekend means Triathlon time at ACE Adventure Center! The holiday weekend gives athletes the chance to warm up at ACE before the June 23rd Richmond, VA Xterra East Championship Series! Triathletes are invited to come to ACE for a 1.5-mile swim, 7-mile trail run and 13-mile XC-MTB bike race on Sunday June 2. The ACE Big Canyon Off Road is sanctioned by USA Triathlon.
This event is perfect as a warm up for the June 23rd Nissan Xterra East Championship in Richmond, VA. Participants can earn points at the ACE Big Canyon Off Road event that will go towards the Nissan Xterra USA Championship. There are 8 regional divisions, in this series, totaling 31 events, reaching from Alaska to Florida.
Throughout the summer, athletes race in search of the coveted title of Regional Champion. Winning this title allows athletes to compete in Lake Tahoe for the Nissan Xterra USA National Championship later this fall. From there, they will compete in the World Championships in Wailea, Maui. The ACE event is part of a world-wide multi-sport series and due to recent rule changes participants from any region can compete in any other region's events and earn points.
ACE Big Canyon Off Road Triathlon
Arrive at ACE Adventure Center on Friday from 12:00 PM 6:00 PM or Saturday all day for registration and practice on the race course. Sunday morning at 8:00 AM is the pre-race meeting at the Lakeshore Dining Lodge, at 9:45 AM the shuttle leaves for the race course and at 11:00AM- the race begins!
The 1.5-mile swim course will be a point-to-point format in the New River. Expected water temperature will be 65 degrees. However, if the water temperature is less than 59 degrees, wet suits will be required. Swim caps are mandatory and will be supplied. Jump from the waters and on to a 7-mile run on ACE fire roads and trails. Then grab a mountain bike and begin a 13-mile course that consists of technical single track, forest service type roads with tremendous views of the New River Gorge. The Awards Ceremonies for First, Second & Third place divisions will be held immediately following the race in the Lost Paddle Lounge at ACE Adventure Center.
Lodging is available for the weekend. Accommodations range from deluxe chalets and cozy cabins with hot tubs, cabin tents with beds, primitive camping sites, bunkhouses and group tents along with full service RV hookups and shower houses. Lodging availability can be made on site but to assure availability, advance reservations are recommended.
Dining will be available on site at the Lakeshore Dining Lodge at ACE Adventure Center. Breakfast buffets, ala-carte lunches and dinners will be available throughout the weekend.
Bring your family and friends and come for the Memorial Day Weekend! You can practice on the race course, or try whitewater rafting, kayaking, horseback riding, rock climbing or rappelling! Or visit some of the many spectacular attractions in the area like the New River Gorge Bridge the worlds largest arch span!
Registration by mail or fax can be made by May 20th. On site registration will also take place on Friday & Saturday, May 31 & June 1 but will not be available on race day. A late fee of $10.00 will be added after May 20th. Free T-shirts will be given to the 1st 100 participants!
