XTERRA ACE Big Canyon Triathlon
May 31, 2009
ACE Adventure Resort and the New River Gorge National River are pleased to once again host the XTERRA American Tour!
This race, nestled in the heart of Southern West Virginia, combines unmatched scenery with a rugged course that is sure to challenge the most diehard multi-sport athlete. The trek begins upstream of the historic town of Thurmond where the racers will swim 1.5 miles in the ancient New River, including a small class 1 rapid. At the old site of the once famous Dun Glen Hotel, the competitors will begin a 1,000 foot climb out of the Gorge. The seven to eight mile run meanders over single-track trails and forest service roads passing through and around abandoned coalmines and tiny towns that once lined the river. The brave souls will then hop on a mountain bike and travel 11 miles on some of the most technical and scenic single-track trails in the east. This is truly-off-the-beaten-path racing at its finest!
The racers and their families and friends can take advantage of other activities in and around the New River Gorge. Whitewater rafting, mountain biking, climbing, rapelling, horseback riding, and kayak lessons with ACA certified instructors are just a few of the adventures offered by ACE, West Virginia’s premier outfitter. We also have a full-service dining lodge and the Lost Paddle Lounge. ACE, as always, offers FREE camping to racers.
If you would rather stay in more comfy lodging, chalets and cabins are also available (be sure to reserve these early!). We welcome all who are brave enough to challenge the “Grand Canyon of the East” in this hard-core edition to the XTERRA American Tour. Good Luck!

ACE New River Bike Fest
August 23, 2009
The beautiful New River Gorge and ACE Adventure Resort combine to create some of the most scenic and hard-core mountain biking in the state. Come see why serious bikers (and some not so serious) make Southern West Virginia their destination for breathtaking trails. Join us for the 9th annual ACE New River Bike Fest! As a bonus for families, the Bike Fest offers something for all ages. After the big kids hit the trail for the big ride, the little kids can participate in a race designed especially for them. Six to twelve-year-olds will navigate several short, youngster friendly loops against other aspiring racers of their own age. So bring the whole gang for the adult competition, the children’s ride, or both! The fun need not end at the conclusion of the race. Feel free to visit the Lost Paddle Bar and Grill to swap tall tales and enjoy a large variety of cold beverages. Dinner is also available at our full-service dining lodge.
As always, camping is free for all racers, but don’t forget our more plush lodging opportunities. Cabins and chalets go quickly, so make reservations early! Be sure to look around and see what activities are available for you and your family and friends. Lakeside Dining, the Lost Paddle Bar & Grill, the adventure play park on the lake, and lots more!
ACE is proud to once again host the New River Bike Fest, and we hope you’ll join us for another exciting weekend of competition, food, and fun. Good Luck!
