Rock Climbing Learn The Ropes Clinic
Rock climbing is a great activity for friends and family to get outside and enjoy the bounty of nature. However, it’s not a sport that you want to practice by trial and error. Rock climbing has tried and true techniques and climbing ethics that have been developed over many years of experts working in the field to ensure safety, environmental stewardship, and uniform practices. Our two day beginner rock climbing clinic will give you a comprehensive introduction to climbing ins and outs.
On day one you and your group meet at the ACE Headquarters for gear and trip briefing. Your guides will issue all the proper equipment to get you up off the ground. Then, you will commute to the climbing site your guides have selected based on your physical abilities and prior experience. The New River Gorge has hundreds of bolted sport climbs and there are plenty for any ability level. Your guides will know how to assess your skill and experience levels in order to get you on the right routes.
From there, you’ll start learning the dos and don’ts, starting with communication. Proper tie-in and belay techniques are always practiced and we make sure you know how to do everything while you are still on the ground, not up in the air when it really counts. This clinic is ideal for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts working towards their merit badge, or anyone else looking to learn how to climb on their own.
For two full days, you’ll get all the climbing you can handle. You'll come back to ACE and camp out or take advantage of our deluxe lodging options. Take a break half way through each day to study the routes and eat a deli style lunch, then you’re back at it again. If you’ve climbed before, you already know that this is one addictive adventure sport. If this is your first time on rock, prepare to get hooked.
