Extreme Whitewater Rafting Ride...Express Agenda
If a full day of rafting won't fit into your travel plans, you can still have an Extreme ride. The Extreme Rapid Run takes ACE's custom-designed 12-foot, 4+ person rafts, a specially trained "Team Extreme" Whitewater Guide, and an abbreviated schedule so you get the New River's wildest ride. You'll get all of the huge waves and drops of the Lower New in an even more exciting, custom ride and your trip will take under 3 hours. Extreme Whitewater Trips have that special something to place them a step above the rest. The Extreme boat is over 100 pounds lighter than or normal rafts and there are four or five fewer people in it! The difference in experience is incredible. It's the ride of your life. Waves bury the raft and drops feel steeper and scarier. While a smaller boat and fewer people mean faster team recovery if things do "turn upside down," it also means spills during thrills are way more likely. A Team Extreme whitewater trip is tough and physical...no place for out-of-shape people. You'll spend a lot of time in, and sometimes under the water. The raft is almost certain to flip...more than once. Good swimming skills, good physical conditioning and a well-developed sense of adventure are essential. This is no place for the fainthearted. These rafting trips are run in an instructional format. Each crew member has to paddle hard and have that gung-ho attitude. Once you hit the water, your Team Extreme Guide will have you working as a team in no time. He or she will teach you some water-reading and rescue techniques to help get your teammates back aboard when the inevitable swims occur. After this whitewater trip, you'll have that wonderful feeling of being part of a team where each member of the group helped the others to have the time of their lives. The Lower New River is so huge in the Springtime that, with the extremely high water levels, we can't safely run the smaller rafts. That makes Team Extreme rafting a Summertime sport. In a normal year, we can run this trip in May through September. If you want the ultimate in whitewater thrills, join Team Extreme.
Trip Format
The Extreme Lower New in a 12' Raft
The lower section of the New River offers moderate to difficult rapids as a high volume of water constricts through the narrow gorge. The first half of the trip offers easier class II & III rapids that allows rafters time to learn to follow guide commands and paddle as a group. Jump Rock allows everyone to get out of the raft alongside the river and jump off of an (approx) 15-20 ft rock into the pool below. After lunch the Lower New alternates from exciting Class IV-V rapids to pools perfect for swimming. Upper and Lower Railroad, the Keeneys, Miller's Folly, and Double Z are among the many rapids that lie in wait on the second half of the trip. Experience the sense of a true outdoor adventure vacation as you encounter huge holes, roller coaster waves and house-size boulders plus some of the most stunning views in West Virginia. The Team Extreme trip is for experienced rafters only.

ACE created "Team Extreme" for the select few who want...and can handle...an intense and aggressive whitewater experience. The Team Extreme trip uses the sport's smallest rafts and our most "extreme" guides. A Team Extreme adventure begins with an intense instructional orientation. You'll learn braces, and advanced strokes. Guests should not sign up for a Team Extreme trip unless they’re in top physical shape. The Team Extreme trip is not recommended for first time rafters.
Different seasons provide very diverse river experiences as the dynamics of the river and the rapids themselves are transformed. Spring rafting is a thrill ride with typically higher water levels, making the waves, holes and rapids even more powerful. March - May offers the biggest whitewater of the season, while summer months offer fun, excitement and warmer temperatures. Great whitewater remains a constant in September and October as fall is fabulous in the New River Gorge.
