Trip DescriptionOn a Classic Lower New Whitewater Rafting Trip, Safety is Our Number 1 Priority
When you put an additional 2 or 3 people in each raft, there are some cost savings for the outfitter. That’s why most companies use the larger boats as their standard ride. At ACE, we price our High Adventure Trip competitively and then pass along the savings to you if you choose to be in a larger boat. On this trip, the emphasis is on safety and fun. Your experienced guide will take the more conservative runs through the whitewater with the goal of keeping everyone in the boat. Whereas unintentional swims are quite common on the High Adventure Trip, they are very, very rare on this trip. That makes the Conservative Classic Lower New Trip perfect for groups and families with younger children. Youngsters as young as 11 will find the fun and adventure they’re looking for while their parents will have the security of knowing that the kids are running the river safely. We also offer the Classic rafting option on our Classic Upper Gauley Whitewater Rafting and Clasisc Lower Gauley Whitewater Rafting Trips. This rafting trip runs the full length of the Lower New River, all 24 fabulous whitewater rapids. It’s a full-day trip which includes 5-6 hours on the water and a delicious riverside lunch. As with every ACE trip, there’s time for jumping off rocks and swimming and playing in the 70-plus degree water of the summertime New River. Although most folks choose this trip for its conservative format and the larger, more stable rafts, the trip is also perfect for those on a tight budget. If you choose this trip to save money, remember that you will be getting a more moderate ride. If the big thrills are what you’re after, stick with the High Adventure Trip.
Trip FormatThe Whitewater of the Lower New River with the Safety of a Classic 16' Raft
The first half of the trip offers easier class 2 & 3 rapids that allows rafters time to learn to follow guide commands and paddle as a group. Jump Rock allows everyone to get out of the raft alongside the river and jump off of an (approx) 15-20 ft rock into the pool below. After lunch the Lower New alternates from exciting Class 4-5 rapids to pools perfect for swimming. Upper and Lower Railroad, the Keeneys, Miller's Folly, and Double Z are among the many whitewater rapids that lie in wait on the second half of the trip. Our Classic trips use 16’ rafts that accommodate larger group sizes (8+ and one guide). The 16’ boat is the least expensive of our three boat sizes. This trip is good for those that are rafting for the first time and are not sure what to expect.

Although ACE is justly famous for our High Adventure
The Lower New Classic Rafting trip offers the perfect blend of relaxation and exhilaration. Both beginner and expert rafters enjoy the magnificent canyon scenery, encounters with wildlife, and glimpses of the many thriving towns that once lived along the river.
Different seasons provide very diverse river experiences as the dynamics of the river and the rapids themselves are transformed. Spring rafting is a thrill ride with typically higher water levels, making the waves, holes and rapids even more powerful. March - May offers the biggest whitewater of the season, while summer months offer fun, excitement and warmer temperatures. Great whitewater remains a constant in September and October as fall is fabulous in the New River Gorge.
