Most of the core friends in my life have been around for years. My friend Riss, who I speak to every day, has been a constant for the past 20 years. We met in the cafeteria at Marshall University while we were dorm dwellers and have been close ever since. We have seen each other through death and divorce and hold each other up when others try to bring us down.
My friend Joey and I have a relationship based on insults and love. We always say that hanging around with us is like being jumped into a gang. You either survive or you run away screaming to your therapist.
Another friend, Amy, is 6 foot 5 inches tall and resembles a post-op transsexual. She isn’t. She just has the extra testosterone that I am missing.
We have all decided that enough with the long distance calls and plans that always fall through. We have decided to rent a beach house this summer for a week and reconnect in person, not via cell phone.
And Riss and Joey are adamant about bringing their dogs. Riss’ lab Eli is an overgrown child while Joey’s dog Liza is a mini-diva.
This trip is going to be a comedy of errors. Mix Animal Planet with Lifetime and Bravo and there you have our future vacation.
Here we are trying to plan a trip for various people in various cities across the United States. It is challenging and not so much fun. Different people with different work schedules and different lives.
We need to have a massive skype session where we can debate back and forth with all of our Google calendars, Blackberries and iPhones. I wish I had my own Adventure Planner. I find it easier planning the trips of others than my own.
How many times have I told a person on the phone about planning ahead?
How many times have I told a group leader to have a big meeting and make a plan?
It seems I need to take a dose of my own medicine and get organized.
I have decided to use ACE’s own Adventure Planner tips to get myself organized. It really is a great tool. I have forwarded this link to all of my friends to motivate our organization.
Updates will follow with our progress. I just hope we can find a beach house big enough for all of our egos and a bed big enough for Amy.
