Being a raft guide sure has its perks. While many people may have a picture of the New River Gorge in their cubicle or office, I’m blessed to be able to play in it everyday — and share it with great people like yourselves. My name is Matt, and I am a second year guide with ACE.
Before coming to ACE and West Virginia in 2008, I was determined to work in the sports industry for my hometown team the Portland Trailblazers.
I have a degree from the University of Oregon in Sports Business, and have worked for multiple professional sports teams. While they were all great experiences, something was missing — and it was the river.
Growing up in Oregon, I was spoiled with the beautiful outdoors and gorgeous rivers, and the addiction of outdoor adventure has never ceased. This is what eventually led me to WV, and after attempting to get a “real job,” I luckily ended up at ACE Adventure Resort.
It’s been a great experience so far, from working with guides from all over the country, meeting guests from all over the world, and most importantly the opportunity to play on world-class rivers.
ACE is the perfect place, with something for everyone and mild to wild activities that will keep you busy and wanting more. I know I do!
So what can I tell you about the guide life? (Guests always have questions about that.)
How did you all discover ACE? Would you pick a rafting job over a professional sports team job?
