Editor’s Note: This is a Great Gauley Blog Off submission by Steven Beach, who’s a pretty great guide in his own right. Terms and rules of the Blog Off are listed at the end of this post. And, hey, we’re accepting submissions all the way through September 7, 2010. So why wait?
I know that, as a guide, I am not eligible for any prizes, but your post got me thinking…..
Tug took us on an Reverse 2-day Gauley trip 15 years ago. He was one of the coolest people I have ever met. I have a blast every time I raft, but my first trip ever was with Tug, and it’s the one I remember most!
He blended immediately with our crazy group, even having to deal with one of us that couldn’t swim (we found out that day during check-in). He is the reason why I became a guide at ACE (albeit after waiting more than a decade).
You’re right, Steven. As a guide, you can’t win anything. Except our hearts. You just can’t say too enough good stuff about the Tall Ugly Guy (who, incidentally, just became a proud papa for the 3rd time! Congrats, Chamberlins!)
