WHAT TO WEAR WHITEWATER RAFTING

It’s the middle of March, and we are finally seeing tiny signs of spring. Like grass, sunshine, smiles, raft guides emerging from hibernation, and here at ACE: Rafters!

Yes, we took down a brave group of folks — from Louisiana no less — on the first trip of the season a few weeks ago. Thankfully the sun was shining, and we’d forgotten about those late night chants fantasizing about what we’d do to that $@#% weatherman if he said any more snowstorms were coming this way.

AHEM. ANYWAY, BACK TO RAFTING…
All the snow this past winter is already creating a ton of water up and down the east coast, and once the swelling goes down a bit, we’re going to see some insane spring rafting.

While out west, rafting icy mountain runoff is a given, sunny days and summer rafting photos can make those of us east coast boaters forget that while the temperatures may be rising above the water, the water temperatures are still dangerously cold.

DANGEROUS THAT IS, IF YOU’RE NOT DRESSED PROPERLY.
For those checking out spring rafting (which we highly encourage), we understand that it’s not reasonable to purchase the latest in dry gear. Thankfully all reputable outfitters will have some cold weather gear to rent. If not, you should seriously think about excusing yourself to the bathroom and hightail it out of there.

That being said, there are still some clothes you probably already have in your closet that you can layer under your wetsuit to keep you nice and cozy, and focused on the most important thing out there…YOUR GUIDE!

ummmm or the whitewater, scenery, friends and family, you know, whatever floats your boat (see what we did there).

Check out the video below for ways to enjoy the spring whitewater while staying warm…because no one’s promising you’ll stay dry. What’s the fun in that?
