Although ACE is best known for West Virginia rafting and duckie trips and West Virginia zip line tours, there are those who want to do more than ride along. For those people, we have created the ACE Adventure School. The school is run by instructors who love and know their sport inside and out, instructors such as kayak program director Chris Colin.
This year ACE welcomes Chris to run ACE’s white water kayak school. Chris has been kayaking since he was fifteen. Growing up in rural Pennsylvania he started on Class III creeks and quickly developed a life long love affair with white water kayaking.
In 2004 Chris moved from PA to Maine to attend Unity College, a small rural school with an outdoor education and conservation curriculum. During his college summers Chris kayaked and guided on the major white water rivers of Maine.
When the commercial white water season ended, Chris’s passion kept him on the water. Even the legendary New England winter couldn’t freeze his desire; Chris braved flood-level white water, icebergs and fallen trees to get his kayaking fix.
Chris moved to ACE in 2009 and has fit in ever since. His love of kayaking has been instrumental in his ability to quickly learn new rivers and apply proper techniques and safe strategies to not only get himself, friends and guests down the river, but also to enjoy themselves in the process.
This summer Chris will take the ACE kayak program in a new and exciting direction. One-on-one pre-trip phone conversations and focus on each paddler’s past experience will help him fulfill their expectations and open a new group of people to this wonderful and gratifying sport.
