For the first time in forever, I am going to be a groomsman in a wedding.
Not just any wedding, mind you. But the wedding of two amazing people who met here at ACE Adventure Resort.
Normally, I would make this all about me, but let me introduce you to the bride and groom.
Introducing, (drum roll) Katie and Phil.
They met in March 2008 on Katie’s first day at ACE as a new trainee. Phil started at ACE in 2007 and happened to be in town. Katie’s bathroom door was broken and Phil decided to be chivalrous and fix the door. It won her heart. They might not enjoy my editorialism of their feelings, but I believe it is important to goose a story when necessary.
I met Phil the season prior when I was on a raft trip by myself. His mom and sister were on the same trip, so I tried to latch onto them to no avail. Instead, I was in a raft with Scott Olive, but that is another blog entirely.
Phil is a cool customer. Charming and well traveled — he has never met a stranger.
I worked with Katie in the ACE reservation office that season, and we became fast friends. Lots of dinners and drinks were had that season and their love blossomed. She is a firery redhead with a great attitude. She and I are on the same humor wavelength which could be a bad or good thing. I especially love the way she tells a story. Great comedic timing.
Together, they are a perfect fit.
After that Gauley Season, they moved to D.C. where they have lived since. Fast forward to now and they are in the planning stages for an August 2010 wedding. These two really have a love for ACE and whitewater rafting, expecially since it is where they met. Several other ACE employees are in the wedding party so it should be a good time.
I think the bachelor/bachelorette parties are taking place on one of our overnight rafting trips. If you have read any of my previous blogs, this is totally OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE. However, I pride myself on being a good sport. Stay tuned for further updates about the wedding plans.
I am sure lots of readers have a sentimental connection to ACE. Tell me your story. Or share your best wishes for Katie and Phil. I assure you I will keep you abreast of all details. Cynicism aside, love is in the air and I need a Claritin.
I am currently trying to convince them to do one of those dance routines to “Booty-licious” down the aisle or at the reception. They are all the rage on YouTube. Probably not gonna happen, but I will do my best.
To be continued …
