Right here in the mountains of “Wild, Wonderful West Virginia" are TWO of America’s best and most popular whitewater rivers…the New and the Gauley.
Right here in our own backyard, surrounded on three sides by the New River Gorge National River Park, you’ll find the finest selection of exciting whitewater adventures available anywhere in the country at ACE Adventure Center.
From easy, family-friendly “mildwater” rafting to the biggest and most exciting world-class whitewater…it’s all right here.
Both of West Virginia’s rivers are run in Spring, Summer and Fall…with each season bringing its own unique selection of rafting adventure.

| The New River: "The Grand Canyon of the East" |
Spring (on the New - March thru May)
Spring means BIG water...BIG thrill...BIG fun! In Spring, the New is truly the "Grand Canyon of the East" with towering waves and monster hydraulics. This is Class V whitewater and there's NOTHING in the East that can match it. Spring is when the true rafting aficionados come out to play. It’s the biggest and most challenging whitewater of the year.
Summer (on the New - June thru August)
Summer brings warm weather...and warm water. Even in summertime, the New River has more water...and bigger waves...than any other eastern river. We'll play, surf, swim and enjoy all the fun things that make the New River the East’s best summertime ride. This is the perfect time to bring out the whole family for some real outdoor fun.
Fall (on the New - September thru November)
Fall on the New means a kaleidoscope of color. Autumn days on the river are uncrowded and the water is usually crystal clear. Catch the awesome beauty of Fall in the mountains while you enjoy a gorgeous day on the river.

| The Gauley River: "The Beast of the East" |
Spring (on the Gauley - Late April thru Mid June with May and Early June Is Best)
The Springtime Gauley is “natural flow” as the Corps of Engineers begins to fill Summersville Lake to its Summer pool level. During periods of heavy Spring rains, the Gauley often runs at levels much higher than the famous Fall dam release.
Summer (on the Gauley - Mid June thru Labor Day)
Rafting the famous Gauley River all Summer is an ACE exclusive. We’re the only company that runs the Gauley every day, all Summer long. With lower water levels, the Gauley is a steep, rocky technical run. If you’re the adventurous type, you’ll want to check out the Summer Gauley this year.
Fall (on the Gauley - Guaranteed High Water Dam Releases!)
Each September, when they pull the plug on Summersville Dam, the Gauley River becomes the epicenter of the whitewater world. Thousands of adventurers from literally around the world flock to West Virginia for the sport’s most challenging runs. For 22 glorious days, over a million gallons of water per minute rush down the Gauley’s steep, rocky riverbed and we all get to enjoy North America’s most intense and exciting river experience…the Fall Gauley!
