| This is a true wilderness camping and paddling adventure. We choose the best sections of the Gauley…depending on current water conditions…and then custom build a self-contained overnight trip just for you. Once you launch on your first day’s adventure, your group will be alone in one of the East’s most beautiful and unspoiled canyons for the next two or three days. All your gear is carried in small rafts and ducks, so it’s a more “minimalist” camping experience than our other overnight trips. Meals are cooked on the campfire and individual 1 or 2-person tents are set up alongside the river. It’s calm and it’s quiet…a rare thing in this day and age. Sometimes, water levels and dam releases dictate that we change plans while we’re on the river. This adds even more to the sense of this being a real adventure in the outdoors. Your Guides have emergency radio contact with ACE’s base camp in case river conditions force a change in the planned itinerary. In the East, there aren’t any commercial river overnights that compare.
