If you happen to be a regular reader of the Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine, you may have spotted the Spring Fling adventure getaway in the February issue. That was an adventure to the ACE resort – yeah, we’re ready for spring to get here, and fast. (I’ll be on the trail today, will you?)Anyway, the prize was a weekend of fun for four people which included lodging, whitewater rafting and the zip line canopy tour. We had about 1,300 entries, but as you know, only one can win the big prize, and it was Matthew L. from Arlington, Va. Congrats, Matthew! Hope to see you in West Virginia soon.
If you haven’t seen the BRO magazine, I suggest you check it out. It covers the Mid-Atlantic Region on just about anything outdoor related – hiking, skiing, running, mountain biking, events, water holes, gear reviews, editorials, it’s all in there. My personal favorite is the “reader forum” segment which wants your opinion about all kinds of topics. I’m not much about giving my own opinion, but I do like to read what others have to say.
The questions up right now are:
“Should mountain bikes be allowed in wilderness areas?”
“Should lost or injured hikers be charged for back country rescue?”
“Should hikers allow their dogs off-leash?”
“Who is the best Olympic athlete?”
If any of these topics strike you, share your opinion. You could win a Dagger kayak. Not bad for just giving your two cents.
OK, I can’t resist, it is my blog after all, so here are my answers:
- YES – We’re people, too
- YES – Some folks need to be reminded that rescues aren’t cheap, be prepared
- YES – Uncrowded areas, sure. They like to be free from the day-to-day grind, too
- SHAUN WHITE – Have you seen some of the stuff he pulls off!?!
Anyway, the magazine is free around town everywhere. If you don’t have easy access to one of their newsstands, you can have it delivered to your home for $19.95 annually.
